Here is what I know:
1) You want to learn the position or further develop or detail your skills otherwise you would not be reading these words;
2) You want individualized instruction based on objective scientific principles complimented by art;
3) You know that you will have to spend valuable hard earned family money to attend.
Two questions must be answered: 1) how does the “Elite” “University” or “Academy” camps justify the fee?”; and 2) will my skills improve? Listed below are a few of their selling points…
*You’ll be coached by a current or former NFL or college celebrity coach who coached so and so QB, or you’ll be coached by a current or former NFL player. First, the celebrity coach/guru may know little if anything about teaching QB skills in the four domains of QB learning. Second, you’ll be instructed by a coach you don’t know or even heard of at all. Third, you will rotate from drill to drill each with different coaches and thus opinions about mechanics typically based on tradition, hearsay, and not objective science in any way shape or form…this makes no sense. Fourth, they will not teach you the detailed mechanics for passing the ball while on the move…again, this makes no sense.
*You’ll be videoed with the latest technology. First, understand that the technology is worthless if the skills can’t be analyzed biomechanically. Second, for you to learn the “guru” coach must video you before and after instruction; analyze the video with you; and then spend individualized time to diagnose specific mechanical problems and prescribe specific mechanical solutions and drills to correct those problems. His analysis and subsequent solutions must be based on the science of biomechanics and motor behavior rather than tradition, hearsay, or his reputation for having coached so and so or played QB to justify his remarks. With these issues, your chance for improvement is diminished and you will learn little if anything at all.
*You’ll perform a variety of agility test…are you spending money to be agility tested or to learn and/or improve QB skills?
*You’ll take a “camp” photo…what does this have to do with learning the position???!!!
*You’ll get a chance to meet the college’s “famous” assistant or head coach…yippee – this is sure to improve your skills.
*You’ll hear celebrity guest speakers…with all the facets of the position to learn/improve why squander time with guest speakers?
You may have attended one of these “Elite” “Universities” or “Academies” and have learned little or nothing except one or two meaningless drills with minimal improvement. They may have criticized and at times screamed and yelled but they did not teach. You felt like a bystander amongst a “buzzilion” other QBs as you watched the celebrity coaches spend quality time with the few “Elite” QBs. In other words, it was a complete waste of time and money.
If what you want is the glitz and the glamour of being around celebrities and a “buzzilion” other QBs; treated like a number on a shirt; coached with tradition and hearsay and not science complimented by art; a recruiting “meat market” then QBOM is not for you.
On the other hand, if you want to learn and work in a way that you will never need a “guru” then read on…
The Seminar mission is simple: to teach and provide the principles, skills, and tools required for effective and efficient performance that determines immediate and long term team leadership.
To accomplish this we employ a unique amount of individual attention, instruction, and repetition not possible in the typical “Elite-University-Academy” setting. QBs are exposed to the art and science of QB play and the requisite skills within the 4 domains of QB learning. The mechanics and the methodology utilized to teach will lead to effective and efficient performance through the enrichment of their collective physical and cognitive QB Skills. To supplement instruction we provide a 4 Domains of Learning Skills Manual, Drills Manual, Evaluation and Recruiting guide, and an off-season throwing workout schedule and yet we stress that they return home and adhere to the prescriptions generated by their high school coach.
Each seminar is LIMITED to 8 QBs admitted on a first to call-register-pay basis; activities are designed to teach the requisite skills; we emphasize, drill, and detail footwork and stroke mechanics; QBs are videoed and evaluated pre and post instruction and are provided with a skills evaluation sent also to his HS coach.
The “Freshman Seminar” is one of a kind in the country and is designed for QBs who will enter grade 9 fall 2010 – older or younger QBs are not allowed to attend. The “Upperclassman Seminar”, unique in its own right, is designed specifically for QBs who will enter grades 10, 11, or 12 fall 2010 – freshmen may NOT attend. As a memento each QB will receive a QBOM long sleeve shirt. All activities are conducted in the safe environment of the University of Northern Iowa. QBs are required to room and board on campus and must be able to attend ALL seminar activities – no exceptions…if you can’t do so due to other summer commitments then DO NOT REGISTER.
The exclusivity of the Seminar requires what I realize to be an expensive remittance set aside for a specific purpose…to learn the QB position. Consequently, we will not waste time and as a result, your “valuable, hard-earned family money”. Therefore, there will be NO campfire to roast marshmallows or hot-dogs and sing kumbaya; NO picture with an NFL or college celebrity will be taken to justify the fee; NO swim time, ping-pong, or video games; NO methodology but QBOM will be employed to coach your son. I personally coach each quarterback…you pay for Coach Verdu – you get Coach Verdu…I am with them 24-7. Day 1 Check-in begins at 7:00am, the first activity begins at 7:30am; we work through the day and night - lights out at 11:30pm. Day 2 begins with a wake-up call at 5:30am, first activity begins at 6:00am; we work ‘till 6:00pm with Check-out approx. 6:30pm. We’ll work, learn, and enjoy the process together.
